City of Jefferson
MLK Improvements Project
Jackson County, Georgia
Residents living on MLK Drive have seen an increase in population as well as pedestrian and automotive traffic on and near MLK Drive. The increase in traffic caused increased dangers to pedestrians. Police reports indicated that there had been eight pedestrian accidents in that area in the past decade.
The City of Jefferson secured the services of Engineering Management Inc. for funding procurement assistance, design and permitting, bid phase management, construction observation and project close out activities related to a sidewalk expansion and enhancement project of MLK Drive.
The community now has greatly enhanced safety for those walking to the City center and other destinations as well as automotive traffic. Moreover, the greatly enhanced drainage system and elimination of ditches, presents a more attractive streetscape and has instilled a renewed sense of community pride and home ownership.
The project was awarded the American Public Works Association (APWA) Georgia Chapter project of the year 2016 Small Cities/Rural Communities Transportation Award.t
