The City of Hiawassee secured the services of Engineering Management Inc. for funding procurement assistance, design and permitting, bid phase management, construction observation and project close out activities related to a sidewalk expansion and enhancement project.

 

A Transportation Enhancement (TEA) Grant from the Georgia Department of Transportation was obtained to be used in conjunction with local monies for funding the project.  Required permits for sedimentation and erosion control were secured.  Construction activities included the installation of approximately 3,380 linear feet of 5-foot sidewalk with 30” curbs and gutters.  Landscaping activities included grading and grassing, installation of Crepe Myrtle and Dogwood trees, planting of Holly bushes and applying mulch.  Park benches and other appurtenances were installed to complete the project.

 

The City of Hiawassee now enjoys improved pedestrian traffic flow as this project connected existing sidewalks to outlying areas south of the City.  The landscape beautification, extended sidewalks and park benches help residents and tourists enjoy the amenities offered by the City of Hiawassee.  The total project cost was $215,000.00.
